Patricia "Patty" Dunning Hotz
March 22, 1948 — May 4, 2019
Patricia (Patty) Ann Dunning Hotz (Lester) passed away May 4th, 2019 after a long and hard fight of complications of B-Cell Lymphoma. She fought an incredibly hard fight so she could be with her children and grandchildren just a little while longer.
She was born in Southampton Hospital to Sam and Rose (Rana) Lester on March 22, 1948. She grew up on Further Lane and attended East Hampton High School, graduating in 1966.
After leaving East Hampton she lived for many years in Newtown, Connecticut where she was an active volunteer in the Newtown Ambulance Corps and worked as a nurse. In the mid 1980s she moved to Florida where she worked in health care and social services. She worked for Lawnwood Hospital for many years as a social worker. She then worked in home health care, working for several agencies before retiring from Trilogy Home Health Care when she became ill.
She volunteered extensively with several veterans organizations as well as the Humane Society, where she was a former member of the board of directors. She was an advocate for senior citizens and the poor. She often participated in clothing and food drives during the holiday seasons for those less fortunate. She organized and coordinated the delivery of Thanksgiving dinners for families in need in the Port Saint Lucie / Fort Pierce FL area for 20 plus years. She was involved in numerous community outreach programs.
Patricia is survived by her husband, Frank Hotz of Port Saint Lucie, FL. A son John (Caroline) Dunning of East Hampton, NY., a daughter Susan Dunning of Port Saint Lucie, FL., and a daughter Katie (Stuart) Jones of Prosper, TX. She is also survived by five grandchildren; John and Elizabeth Dunning of East Hampton, NY and Brayden, Declan and Kellen Jones of Prosper, TX., as well as her mother Rose (Rana) Lester of Palm City, FL., her brother Sam (Maura) Lester of New Haven, VT., and her sister Joanne (Tim) O’Brien of East Hampton, NY. She is predeceased by her father, Sam Lester.
A Memorial Mass for Patricia will take place at 10am Saturday, May 11th, 2019 at Saint Bernadette Catholic Church, 350 NW California BLVD. Port Saint Lucie, FL 34986. A Celebration of Life will be held following the Mass at St Bernadette Catholic Church.
