Norman William Platts

November 22, 1933 — November 15, 2021

Norman William Platts died on November 15, 2021, at his family home in Fort Pierce Farms. He was born to Norman Gilbert Platts and Helen Schorer Platts in Fort Pierce on November 22, 1933, and was the grandson of Fort Pierce’s first doctor, Dr. Clyde Phillips Platts. He graduated Fort Pierce High School in 1951 and received his bachelor’s degree in Horticulture from the University of Florida in 1955, returning to Fort Pierce to raise his family and manage Platts Groves which was started by his father in the 1930’s. Norman was previously active in many citrus organizations, the Fort Pierce Rotary Club, and the Treasure Coast Symphony, where he enjoyed playing the French horn for many years. He was a gentle man who had a great love for the outdoors and people, constantly nurturing his plants and orchids while praying with and encouraging others.

Norman was married to Barbara Baker Platts for 64 years before her death in 2017. Together they raised seven children in their home in the Florida hammock surrounded by orange groves, frequently gathering all of them and the family dogs in the station wagon to travel to their cabin in the North Carolina mountains as often as they could. The love and memories they shared between themselves, their family and friends, and the joy of their reunion together with Christ will be treasured forever.

Norman is survived by six children, Bobbi Rives and husband Gordon (Linsey, Brooke, Daniel), Kathi Forget and husband David (Traci), Parker Platts and wife Debbie (Ansley, Brenden, Kylie), Bill Platts and wife Heather (Harrison, Pierce), Jon Platts and Peggy (Jonathan), Tara Cook and husband Mark (Brittni, Josh, Kayla), and eight great grandchildren. Norman is preceded in death by his wife Barbara Platts, daughter Jennifer Price, and granddaughter Jo Beth Price.

The family will receive friends from 5 P.M. to 7:30 P.M. on Friday, November 19th at Haisley Funeral Home, 3015 Okeechobee Road, Fort Pierce. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, November 20th at Haisley Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Riverview Memorial Park.
