Nancy Geraldine Fischer

February 14, 1957 — June 2, 2019

Nancy Fischer, age 62, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 2, 2019, while in Florida. She spent her last week on vacation, surrounded by her loved ones and the ocean, a few of her most favorite things.

She was born on February 14, 1957, in New York City to Vincent and Louise Cutajar. She was the youngest of three sisters (Paulette Bayer and Jeanette Pace). Nancy moved with her family to Florida when she was 13 years old, became a registered nurse at the age of 20, and met her would-be husband, Ed Fischer, at a pub in South Florida at the age of 23. Ed and Nancy’s love story emerged almost instantly; they were engaged after only 6 weeks, married after one year, and celebrated for 38 years until the day she was called to heaven. From 1982 to 1991, they gave birth to four unique and devoted children, Christopher, Megan, Kathryn, and Matthew. A family defined by their love for each other, solace to others, humorous (and sometimes crazy) anecdotes, and perseverance through adversity. Nancy was, and always will be, the driving force. They spent many of their years together, between Florida and Georgia, celebrating life’s big and small moments with love and laughter. Her children and husband will cherish these memories daily, as her love and presence will always remain in their hearts.

Among many things, Nancy loved God, family, friends, holidays, dogs, the beach, music, and cooking. She always had a vacation planned to look forward to. She was proud to be a nurse and was an inspiration to so many lives. She went on to achieve her Bachelor of Science in Nursing (Summa Cum Laude) at the age of 57; and received many accolades throughout her 42-year career. She will be remembered by her coworkers as a fearless leader, always advocating for what was right when it came to her patients and staff, and who sometimes, behind closed doors and to the surprise of many, cussed a little. Nancy was also considered a close friend and confidant to so many healthcare professionals she’s encountered across the years; her shoes will never be filled.

Nancy will forever be remembered as a loving mother, wife, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She was selfless, encouraging, supportive, and kind. She found beauty in every aspect of life. Her charisma was best exemplified from the time of her diagnosis with pancreatic cancer in 2015, throughout her battle, and up until her very last breath. She was a fighter and had every rightful opportunity to be angry, depressed, and to lose faith. As her body surrendered to a devastating illness, she would not let it define her. Instead, she loved and fought harder, seizing every moment she was given, continuing to spread her light and love to others. Neither hardship nor cancer could ever rob Nancy of who she was. Always graceful, until the moment God called her home.

If Nancy could leave us with lasting advice, it would be to take the trip, never sweat the small stuff, and that everything should always be “made with love”.

The life of Nancy Fischer will be celebrated with a service in Hollywood, Florida at Nativity Catholic Church on July 5, 2019, at 10 am followed by a memorial reception from 1-3pm at Smoke on the Water in Weston, Florida.
