Melvin Raymond Brown

Melvin R. Brown, 105 years old, passed away peacefully at St. Lucie Medical Center in Port St. Lucie, Florida, on August 16, 2019.
Melvin was born on January 6th, 1914 in Herkimer, New York, to Jay Brown and Esther Ottman Brown. He is predeceased by his wife, Donna E. Brown, his oldest son, Alan A. Brown, Great Grandchildren, Jared Massocco and Haden Fort, and siblings, Elizabeth, Dorothea, Gordon, Adelbert, Stanley, Maynard, Inez, Walter, Giles, Evan, Eleanor and Herberta.
Melvin is survived by his three children, Kathy Gregg, Larry (Dawn) Brown, Carol Brown and daughter-in-law, Marcia Brown. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Tiffannie Berger, Michelle Massocco, AJ Fort, Sybil Pollak, Jason Brown, Erica Brown, Raymond Pinault and Kelsey Peterson, as well as his great-grandchildren, Giovante, Anthony, Gabrielle, Saige, Lily, Tyler, Brody, Morgan and Genevieve, and great-great-grandchildren, Wyatt and Kase.
Melvin is an Army Veteran, having served in Pearl Harbor and was awarded an Asiatic-Pacific Medal. He then married Donna E. Anthony, of Canajoharie, New York on June 7, 1947. The two spent their time as the proprietors of Iroquois Lanes and other businesses in Canajoharie, before retiring to Florida. For a great part of his life, Mel was a proud member of the Masons and Shriners, known by many as “Chubby” the clown. He dedicated most of his time to the Shriners’ Hospitals for Children philanthropy, helping sick children in need and participating in a number of events throughout the U.S.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, August 31st at 1:00p.m. at the American Legion Post 318.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Shriners’ Hospitals for Children, PO Box 31356, Tampa, Florida 33631 or to the American Legion Post 318,1000 Savanna Club Rd, Port St. Lucie, Florida 34952.
Mel will always be remembered for his longevity, love of dancing and ability to bring a smile to anyone he met. As dedicated by the Amara Shrine Potentate, January 6th will be known as “Mel Brown Day” to all those he touched along the way.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Haisley Tribute Center, 2041 SW Bayshore Blvd., Port St. Lucie, FL.
