John Roy Sickler

April 25, 1935 — November 19, 2018

John Roy Sickler, 83, of Port St. Lucie, Florida passed away November 19, 2018 at TrustBridge Hospice in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Mr. Sickler was born in Washington, D. C. on April 25, 1935 to Mr. and Mrs. Brice Sickler.
John moved to Port St. Lucie, Florida in 1988 coming from Fort Washington, Maryland.
He was in the Armed Forces with the Air Force as an Airman for four years before marrying his wife Harriet on October 11, 1958. He was an entrepreneur with many ventures, including opening an auto body shop and a Pie Tree franchise, where he made pies and baked goods. He even ran for Congress to help out a friend. Most of his career was spent as an electrician with the IBEW Local 26 before traveling across country, including working at numerous nuclear power plants, to provide for his family.
His life was surrounded by family and work. He enjoyed fishing, boating, playing golf and working out in the yard gardening with his beloved wife. John loved listening to jazz on Saturday nights with his wife, reminiscing of great times out “cutting a rug” with his wife and friends. His favorite programs on tv were 60 minutes, Hard Ball, MSNBC and the NBC Nightly news. He was a man of many trades, no project he couldn’t tackle. Most of all his family always came first no matter what. He adored his wife, children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter unconditionally. Not a day went by without a phone call to check on all of us. He was a good organizer and always had his way of doing things. He loved to clean and mop the floors. He was one to always worry about everyone else before himself. When traveling in his favorite 1999 Lincoln Town Car to Maryland twice a year, he always wanted to get the most out of a tank of gas on I-95 (even running out of gas a time or 2).
Survivors include, his daughter, Stephanie Stovall of Huntingtown, Maryland; son, John (Mario Roa) Sickler of West Palm Beach, Florida; grandchildren, Krystal (Roger) Edwards of Prince Frederick, Maryland and Kasey Stovall of Huntingtown, Maryland; great-granddaughter, Kyleigh Edwards of Prince Frederick, Maryland; and sisters Beatrice Cassidy of Miami Springs, Florida, Joy Heslin of San Antonio, Texas, and Glorida DeCreny of Camp Hill, Pennsylvania. He was predeceased by his wife, Harriet Sickler and son-in-law Roger Stovall, Jr.
In his honor, we will carry on his legacy throughout our generations.
A memorial service and interment ceremony will be held on Sunday, February 17, 2019, at Cedar Hill Cemetery at 10:00 a.m. located at 4111 Pennsylvania Avenue, Suitland, Maryland. Both John and Harriet, who passed away earlier this year, will be interred together at this ceremony. A reception will follow at 166 Oakland Hall Road, Prince Frederick, Maryland at the residence of Krystal Edwards.
In lieu of flowers, Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, St. Jude’s Hospital or the Alzheimer’s Association.
