Jerry L. Smith

Jerry L. Smith, 89, died March 9, 2019 in Fort Pierce, Florida.

Jerry was born on July 3, 1929 in Sioux City, Iowa and resided in Fort Pierce, Florida.

He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army serving in Korea. Jerry received his undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado and received his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Colorado School of Law. He was employed by J.C. Penney and Oxford Development Company. He was a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity, University of Colorado, member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and Indian River Presbyterian Church, Fort Pierce where he also sang in the choir. He was an avid golfer at Meadowood Golf and Tennis Club. Some of Jerry's interests included music, traveling, reading, watching movies, along with working Crossword puzzles. He was also well known for his personal poems.

Survivors include his wife of 12 years, Rita Smith of Fort Pierce, FL; sons, Ken Smith of Damariscotta, ME, Randy Smith of Wilton, NY; daughter, Julie Umphlette of Idaho Falls, ID; sisters, Carolyn Coons of Atlanta, GA and Margy Lockhart of Nevada City, CA; brother, Dick Smith of Denver, CO; stepsons, John and Peter Talarico; and 8 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia O. Smith (deceased September 4, 2004), parents, Harold & Catherine Smith and sister, Donna Houser.

A service will be held on Thursday, March 14, 2019 at 2:30 PM at Indian River Presbyterian Church.
