James Richard Pooler Sr

May 15, 1928 - December 27, 2021

James R. Pooler, Sr, 93, of Port St. Lucie, FL passed away on December 27, 2021. James was born May 15, 1928 in Watertown, New York to Guy and Helen Pooler. After graduating from Watertown High School, he attended Syracuse University, and later joined the United States Army, serving during World War II in Germany. James lived in Watertown, and Alexandria Bay in NY, as well as Lake Monticello, VA, Palm City and Port St. Lucie, FL, Clayton and Liverpool, NY. James was the District Sales Manager for AC Delco for the Syracuse District; he founded and managed the Pullman District Corporation in Liverpool, New York; He served as a County Legislator in Syracuse, NY, during his third term he was the Majority Leader. He also constructed and managed Heritage Apartments in Watertown, NY; owned and operated Fisherman’s Wharf Motel in Alexandria Bay, NY; created Palm City Groves Citris Shippers in Palm City, FL. He created Trader Dick’s Antiques in Charlottesville, VA, and worked with the Virginia Cooperative Extension Services as a family Financial Advisor. James also volunteered for many community organizations in all three states including; Literacy Volunteers of America in Charlottesville, VA and Learn to Read in St. Lucie County; Docent for the Elliot Museum, but especially the US Coast Guard Auxillary in NY, VA, and FL. He really enjoyed teaching boating skills and was a Master Instructor in Boating Safety Courses. James always joined the American Legion wherever he lived. Survivors include devoted wife of 44 years, Sarah Pooler of Port St. Lucie, FL; sons, Donald A. Pooler of Liverpool, NY and James R. Pooler of Manlius, NY; and nephew, Scott Pooler of St. Petersburg, FL; as well as numerous grandchildren and cousins. He was preceded by his first wife, Rose Izzo Pooler; brother, Donald Pooler; nephew, Steve Pooler, and daughter, Joanne Estes.
