James attended Ball State University and earned a Master of Education degree from Indiana University. He did his student teaching in Gary Indiana before teaching in Culver Indiana and Lake Worth Florida.
James volunteered additional teaching time with underprivileged children in Gary.
James loved sailing, cars, reading, music, photography and home improvement.
James is preceded in death by his parents Charles and Dorothy. He is survived by his brother Robert and sister Patricia.
