Hilda Pearl "Susie" Carlton, 96, passed away January 13, 2022 in Port St. Lucie, Florida.
Hilda Pearl “Susie” Roberts Carlton was born on July 27, 1925 in Kissimmee, Florida. She moved to Fort Pierce, Florida as a young girl where she later met her husband of 54 years, Carl “Big Boy” Carlton Sr. Together, they raised their devoted children, Carl “Skeeter” Carlton, Jr. and Rhoda Carlton Hill. As a young couple, Susie and Big Boy worked together in the family cattle business and owned a Texaco bulk plant in both Fort Pierce and Okeechobee, Florida. Later in life, Susie enjoyed a 14-year career at the St. Lucie County Tax Collector’s Office.
Susie was a strong, intelligent woman with incredible talents. She crocheted and sewed meticulous works of art, which have become treasured memories for family and friends. Susie had a variety of hobbies including crafting, reading, puzzles, astrology, and anything outdoors, especially gardening, freshwater fishing, and spending time in the woods. She was an animal lover with a penchant for bird watching and caring for her beloved Australian Shepherd, Teddy. Whenever Susie stepped out, she was always impeccably dressed, including a matching broach and earrings.
She was guided by her strong faith in God and spread His love by greeting everyone with warmth and kindness.
Susie’s family was the centerpiece of her life. She never missed a birthday or special occasion. Every member of Susie’s family felt a unique connection to her, and she was beloved by all.
Susie is survived by her son, Carl “Skeeter” Carlton Jr. and his wife, Linda Carlton; her daughter, Rhoda Hill and her husband, Mike Hill; four grandchildren, Glenna Carlton Sigmon and husband Mickey Sigmon, Julie Hill Thomas and husband Randy Thomas, Jackie Hill Pattison and husband Chuck Pattison, Cara Carlton Perry and husband Paul Perry Jr.; and six great-grandchildren, Marcus Sigmon, Willie Pattison, Carlton Wade Sigmon, Zachary Pattison, Shelby Kay Sigmon, and Will Perry. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Carlton, Sr.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, January 22, 2022, from 1:00-1:30 PM at Haisley Funeral Home, with a memorial service to follow at 1:30 PM.
