Frederick James Lewis

May 24, 1959 — December 15, 2019

Frederick James Lewis, beloved son of Carol Lewis Buffum and devoted father of Caroline Lewis succumbed to a brief bout of pneumonia on December 15, 2019. In addition, he is survived by his loving companion, Michelle Jones and sister, Betsy Lewis Wood (James); niece, Laurie Wood Griffis (Scott); nephews, Jeffrey Wood (Laura) and Andrew Wood (Megan); their children, Levi, Luke, Hayes, Hudson, and Harper; step-brothers, Robert Buffum (Jeanne) and Glenn Buffum (Marie); special cousins, Pat Knierim (Matt), Robert Vernon (Audrey), Bill Vernon, Ron Vernon (Judy), David Heath (Eileen), Norman Heath (Averil), George Heath (Linda), and Beth Molyneaux (Dan). He was the son of the late Henry James Lewis, brother of the late David Vernon Lewis, and great-uncle of Graham David Griffis.

Fred’s infectious laugh and upbeat spirit brought joy to everyone he met. He used his talents to show everyone how much he cared, especially being grill master and gourmet chef for family dinners and church gatherings. He was a loving and generous care giver to his mother. He shared his love for boating and riding Harleys with family and friends as he took them on cruises or biking alongside the beautiful Indian River. He owned his company, Fred Lewis Construction.

Fred grew up in Springfield, PA, where he was the captain of the school ice hockey team and played for the Little Flyers. Summers were spent on the Jersey Shore, where he loved swimming in the Barnegat Bay and riding the amusements at the Seaside boardwalk. He moved to Vero Beach in 1974, and quickly adopted the Miami Dolphins. He loved watching football and would root for the Eagles, since Michelle was a huge Eagles fan, that’s if they weren’t playing the Dolphins. Unlike most couples, Michelle and Freddy were “tougher than the rest”.

He loved spending time with his daughter, Caroline. He used to joke and say she is the one that raised him. He taught her her love for the water, Boston Terriers, Harleys, Miami Dolphins, Johnny Cash and numbers. He loved his daughter more than life itself and they meant the world to each other.

A service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, December 28, 2019 at the Sebastian Church of God, 281 Delaware Avenue, Sebastian, FL. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Sebastian Church of God.
