Dieter Ruhstrat

Ruhstrat, Dieter (1941-2022)

Dieter Ruhstrat was born on February 16th, 1941 in Göttingen Germany and passed away peacefully with his family around him on July 21, 2022.

Dieter spent his childhood in central Germany. His early years were marked by the intellect and work ethic that would characterize his entire life. In 1960 he chose to immigrate to the United States and shortly thereafter Dieter enlisted in the Air Force where he became a successful flight trainer. After being honorably discharged in 1964, he settled down in Milwaukee Wisconsin with his new wife Elisabeth Ruhstrat and welcomed the birth of his children Desirée and Steven. He held positions in Milwaukee as a designer and electronics technician. In 1977, the Ruhstrat family relocated to Evergreen, Colorado where he held various positions in sales, realty and technical management. He went on to further his education and received a degree in 1984 from Regis College in technical management.

Dieter was always interested in trying out various business opportunities which allowed him to lead various companies in Colorado and then relocated to Montreal, Canada where he patented and designed enclosure equipment.

He returned to his homeland in 1990 to take over his families business but decided America was his home. He was determined to reach his lifetime goal of being self employed and took over Major Canvas Awnings in Port St Lucie in 1998. Dieter remarried in 1999 to Margareta Ruhstrat Stolze of Duderstadt Germany who was his devoted companion and work partner.

Dieter’s hobbies were singing and playing his guitar. He loved his life in the United States and had a special fondness for Country Western and American Folk Music.

Dieter is survived by his second wife Margareta Ruhstrat Stolze of Port St Lucie and his daughter Desiree Ruhstrat and David Cunliffe of Illinois and son Steven Ruhstrat and Daniela Ruhstrat and two grandchildren Juliana and Ryan of Germany.
