David "Bucky" George Walters

February 26, 1948 — April 29, 2021

David "Bucky" George Walters, 73, passed away peacefully at Treasure Coast Hospice on April 29, 2021.

Bucky was born in Batesville, Indiana to the late Vernon John and Ruth Christine Walters on February 26, 1948. The family moved to Fort Pierce, FL in 1954. He graduated from Dan McCarty High School in 1966. He entered a 36 year career as a Law Enforcement Officer with the St. Lucie County Sheriff's Department rising to the position of Major. He retired in 2003 from the Sheriff's Department and assumed a position of Administrative Director for the Regional Crime Lab located at Indian River State College and retired in 2019. He earned a Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice from Nova University and was a graduate of the FBI National Law Enforcement Academy in Quantico Virginia in 1981. He was humbled and proud to serve his community throughout his Law Enforcement career.

Anyone who knew Bucky was aware of his love for the outdoors, especially hunting, air boating and bass fishing. He delighted in sharing these experiences with others. He enjoyed travel throughout the USA, with special love for the Northwest, and cherished his family trips to Indiana, Cuba, Australia and New Zealand. He was the leader of the Walters' family and especially the annual family reunions in Indiana. He maintained close relationships with his aunts, uncles and cousins.

Bucky is survived by his wife, Paula Williams Walters, and brother, Mark (Carolyn) Walters, sisters, Mary Walters, Lois (Jim) Gordy, Linda (Pete) Hays and Janet (Neal) Wilkinson. He was the best "Uncle Buck" to his nieces, nephews and a multitude of young people that he mentored throughout his life. His outgoing personality gained him many friends, both personal and professional, and his knack for telling jokes and stories was expected and memorable. Nothing more in life did he enjoy than spending a day of "plundering" with his friends or family.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in Bucky's memory to Treasure Coast Hospice, 5000 Dunn Road, Fort Pierce, FL 34981, Trinity Lutheran Church, 2011 South 13th Street, Fort Pierce, FL 34950 or to the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Explorers, 4700 W. Midway Road, Fort Pierce, FL 34981.
