Courtney Laine Swager
August 18th, 1986 to May 11th, 2022

Courtney, Court, Aunt CoCo, Cosign, Corndiggitydog, was born in Pahokee, FL, on August 18th, 1986. She spent her childhood playing sports and exploring all life has to offer with friends in Port Saint Lucie, FL, with her family. She was a Martin County High graduate and went on to the University of North Florida in Jacksonville where she studied English and worked at Mellow Mushroom and made countless life-long friendships and earned her Bachelors in English with a minor in psychology. She traveled throughout Southeast Asia and Central America, which inspired her and helped shape her world view. She went on to move to Thailand for a year where she taught English at a university there before eventually moving back to PSL to pursue a career in teaching children with learning disabilities, at which she excelled and found purpose.

Courtney expanded her spiritual self to practice compassion towards all living things and to be a kind and gentle soul. She enjoyed cooking and eating incredible meals, camping, fishing, going out with friends, live music, dancing, being a teacher, and making others smile. She sought out botanical gardens, remote islands, mountain tops, wide open ocean spaces, city markets, wild areas, Tennessee, and anywhere she could meet a friend. She was always down for a good time and made herself available to her endless list of friends, whether getting together or a phone call, Court used her gift of gab and always made the effort and enjoyed being with others.

She was the most caring daughter, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, granddaughter, niece, cousin, partner, and friend. Her friends and family will remember Courtney as genuinely kind, funny, fun-loving, courageous, nurturing, discerning, silly, deep, reflective, and warm. She was a beacon of light, laughter, and love everywhere she went. Although she fought her battles in private, she was adamant about others getting the help they needed and always lended a shoulder to cry on and an ear to listen. Her life and influence will be a constant reminder to check in with each other, hug your dear ones, be goofy and laugh, throw up the “I love you” sign, and eat good food.

Courtney is preceded in death by her grandparents and survived by her mother, Karen, father, Tom, sister, Bailey, brother, Trey, sister-in-law, Paige, and nephew, Leo.

Her physical presence will always be missed, but she is a part of us and will always be with us.
