Catherine "Cathy" Swentzell

June 1, 1933 — May 29, 2022

Catherine “Cathy” Swentzell, loving wife, mother, family woman and friend, passed away peacefully on May 29th 2022 in Fort Pierce, Florida. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Cathy was born on June 1, 1933 in Milititish, Yugoslavia to Johann and Katharina Krewenka (Lennert). In America, she met and then married Walter Swentzell on Thanksgiving 1952 in Passaic, New Jersey. They raised 2 children in Montville, New Jersey before moving to Fort Pierce, Florida in 1976.

Cathy was a kind, caring and giving person who always put the needs of her family before her own. She was always there for you if you needed her and fiercely protective of those that she loved. She dedicated her life to being a wonderful mother and supporting her family with warmth and kindness. Cathy enjoyed activities such as reading, gardening, cooking and baking, especially all of her ethnic family recipes. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with family and friends over holiday dinners, barbeques, pool parties (NJ), and having family come to stay with her in FL on vacation. She loved sharing stories about her family heritage and felt it important to talk with family at least every week, so that everyone could be kept up to date on what is going on with each other. Cathy was a one of those rare special people who always made you feel loved.

Cathy is survived by her husband of 69 years, Walter Swentzell of Fort Pierce, FL, son, Richard Swentzell and his wife Angie of Jensen Beach, FL, daughter, Suzanne Richards and her husband Ron of Fort Pierce, FL, grandson, Luke Richards, and his wife Heather of Colorado Springs, CO, great grandchildren, Luke and Jane Richards, brother Eric Krewenka and his wife Pat of Fort Pierce, FL and sister Hilde Schimpf and husband Eddie of Lake Hopatcong, NJ. She was preceded by her parents and her brother Mathias “Matty” Krewenka .

There will be no services but a private family scattering of ashes will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Treasure Coast Hospice, 5000 Dunn Road, Fort Pierce, FL 34981.
