Arlia Frink Almond

Arlia Frink Almond passed away February 18, 2021 following a brief illness. Arlia was born in Fort Pierce, Florida in 1927 to parents Oscar Frink and Linnie Dame Frink. She and her two siblings, George and Bitsy grew up attending local schools and helping in their parent’s store, Frink’s Furniture and Music in Fort Pierce.

She graduated from Fort Pierce High School in 1945. Her classmates developed a special bond during the World War II years and remained close friends throughout their lives. During that period, students began kindergarten on one end and finished high school on the other at the yellow brick school which is now Fort Pierce Magnet School of the Arts.

Arlia studied music at Stetson University in Deland and Florida State College for Women in Tallahassee. She married Jack Almond, and they raised their two daughters Susan and Julie in St.Lucie Village. Later in life, Arlia would return to college to complete a BFA in Theatre Arts specializing in Stage Design at Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton.

As a member of Fort Pierce Baptist Church, Arlia participated in the choir and as a soloist. She was active in St.Lucie Community Theatre and the original Fort Pierce Art Club. She continued to paint with acrylics in her final years, producing many beautiful Florida landscapes and more.

In her final two decades, Arlia returned to St.Lucie Village, living near the Indian River in a cottage next to daughter Julie and her husband
Phil. When her life slowed down, she relished sitting on her front screen porch with her cat, Kino, and visiting with neighbors as they passed by or came to sit for what was always an engaging and lively conversation.

Survivors include her two daughters Susan Beard of Creston, NC and Julia Lounibos and her son-in-law Phil Lounibos of Fort Pierce; sister Louise (Bitsy) Willmott of Titusville, Florida; grandchildren Kim Hadley of Creston, NC and Justin Price of Fort Pierce; and great grandchildren Daniel and Jack Price of Fort Pierce. She was predeceased by her brother George Frink.

At Arlia’s request there will be no services. If desired, donations may be made in Arlia’s memory to Raining Cats Rescue, Inc. on Facebook or by mailing check to Raining Cats 770 Sarina Terr. SW, Vero Beach, FL 32968, or Heathcote Botanical Gardens, www.Heathcotebotanicalgardens.org
