Alfred Nathaniel Smith

April 14, 1921 — August 15, 2019

Alfred N. Smith was born April 14, 1921 in St. Catherine (Old Harbour), Jamaica, West Indies to Clifford and Daisy Smith. He was the oldest of seven children that included four brothers and two sisters all of which are deceased. They lived abroad from Jamaica, Canada, London and Ft. Pierce FL.

He shared his life with his beloved partner and wife of 62 years Pearl Smith. He was preceded in death by his loving wife and two daughters Claudette (D) Adams and Patricia (D) White. Alfred was the patriarch of his family and played important roles as a father, a brother, a brother in law, an uncle, a grandfather, a great grandfather and a great-great grandfather.


While in Jamaica he accepted Christ at a young age, graduated high school in Old Harbour and worked as a seaman abroad. He traveled to London, England where he worked at T.W. Walls & Sons for many years with his wife. He then traveled to New York where he worked in the food service industry at the hospital in Brooklyn, New York. Later he retired with his wife to Port St. Lucie, Florida. He enjoyed playing dominoes and conquian aka “cooncan” card game with his loved ones and friends.

Alfred N. Smith departed this life on August 15, 2019. He was loved by all who knew him. He leaves to treasure his memory: a loving daughter Valerita (Willie) Miles of East St. Louis, IL and a dedicated son Alfred (Pat) Smith Jr. of Port St. Lucie, FL., his sons in law Charles (Datsie) Adams and Luther (Wanda) White. Grandchildren Angela Adams of Philadelphia, PA, Michelle (Charles) Curry of Snellville, GA, Carlton (Susan) Miles of St. Louis, MO, Jacqueline (Demetrius) Polk of Lawrenceville, GA, Paul (Cherita) Adams of Odenton, MD, Jeffrey White of Springfield, MA, Kimberly Miles of Belleville, IL, a host of great grand children Vincent, Jordyn, Carlton II, Charles III, Lauren, Harrison, Nyla, Skylar, Khary and a great great grandchild Ahmad. He will also be missed by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. We celebrate the 98 years of the love and life of Alfred N. Smith his memories will remain forever in our hearts and minds.
