Ruth Celina Blake Mclellan

December 27, 1922 — June 22, 2017

Ruth Celina Blake McLellan, of Port St. Lucie, FL, passed to be with her Lord on June 22, 2017.

Ruth was born on December 27, 1922, in Lowell, MA, and raised in both Bangor and Guilford, ME. She was the daughter of Clive and Vivian Blake and spent summers and high school years with them in Bangor. During her grade school years she was raised under the watchful eyes of her dear Aunt Myrtle and Uncle Ray Huntington of Guilford, ME and nearby Whetstone Pond.

Ruth and Robert (Bob) McLellan married on April 17, 1943 and raised their family in Bridgeport, CT. They were married for 58 years. Still, her favorite place on earth was the cottage on Whetstone Pond. She spent nearly every summer there while her family was growing and, thereafter, with her husband, Bob, during many retirement years. She had an enlarged photo blanket of this cottage, gifted to her by her daughter, Bonnie, that hung on her bedroom wall where she could look at it every day. Beside it hung a picture of the schooner, “Celina,” her namesake, captained by her great-grandfather, Capt. Merrill Adams, out of Boothbay Harbor, ME. This picture was lovingly gifted to Ruth by her sister, Naomi.

Survived by her five children, JoAnn (Jody) Ronco of Ft. Pierce, FL, Betty Gene (Donald) LaPointe of West Haven, CT, Bonnie Blake (Drew) Tuttle of Bridgeport, CT, Robert Douglas McLellan of Weston, FL, and Scott Edward (Michelle) McLellan of Jensen Beach, FL; six grandchildren and 3 step-grandchildren. Predeceased by her husband, Robert E. McLellan, sisters, Naomi West Crowder and Barbara Blake and brothers, Douglas and Robert Blake.

Ruth was a 60 year member of Azalia Chapter #2 OES, Stratford, CT and was also an avid bridge player.

Graveside services for Ruth will be at the convenience of her family in CT. Gifts in her memory may be made to American Cancer Society.
