Richard L. Templeton, Sr.

It is with profound sadness we announce the passing of Richard Templeton of Fort Pierce, Florida. Survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Lee, sons Steve McDonough of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, Donald Keith, Michael Templeton and daughter Lorianne Templeton Saunders, grandchildren Katilynn and Heath Saunders of Chesapeake, VA, and Eric Fox of Portsmouth, VA, niece Amy Blosser of North Carolina, and Sasha his loyal dog. He was preceded in death by sons Richard Templeton and Edward McDonough. Richard was the son of the late H. Paul and Emily Jean Templeton of Michigan and the grandson of the late Lionel Marshall of Michigan.

Richard was born and was raised in Michigan. He graduated from University of Michigan and served in the United States Marine Corps. Richard played and managed minor league baseball in VA and enjoyed 30’s and 40’s music. He was also a sports enthusiast and followed the Detroit Tigers, Pistons, Lions, Red Wings and his beloved Michigan Wolverines.

Richard worked for Citizen Trust Bank in Portsmouth, VA, Templeton and Associates in Chesapeake, VA, and served as a Magistrate for the Commonwealth of Virginia in the Chesapeake/Portsmouth region. He retired from the City of Hollywood, FL in 1995. He faithfully served as Trustee for the City of Hollywood General Employees’ Pension Board, representing retirees for over 20 years, an employee representative and President for Local 2432, and a Board member for the City of Hollywood Retiree Association. He was a member of Masonic Lodge # 178, Lake Drummond for 60 years and a Deacon for the Cypress Presbyterian Church in Pompano Beach, FL.

Richard, a spiritual man, was an advocate of the rights of workers and retirees’. He represented them with fairness, honesty, and integrity.

Having lived a remarkable and active life, Richard was greatly loved and respected by many. He will be deeply missed by his family and numerous friends.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 26th from 1 - 4 pm at the Hollywood Beach Culture and Community Center, 1301 South Ocean Drive, Hollywood, FL 33019. ( 954-921-3600)
