Nancy Alma Leggere—Feb. 2, 1934—May 6, 2017

Nancy (Nan) Alma Leggere was born in Milford, Mich. to James and Viola (nee Eldridge) Dempsey. Nan graduated from high school in Lansing in 1952 and shortly thereafter entered the United States Navy. During her service in the Navy, Nan attended dental school, earned her degree as a dental hygienist but most importantly, met the love of her life Glenn W. Leggere.

Nan and Glenn were married in Nov. of 1953 and in Nov. of 1954 welcomed their son Craig into their family, with the birth of their son Chris in April of 1957 made their family complete.

After starting their family in New York, Nan and Glenn moved to Silver Spring Maryland where, while raising a family Nan worked for the dental practice of Dr. Nathan Katz as hygienist and office manager. Nan enjoyed her work with Dr. Katz for many years until her retirement when she and Glenn moved to first Deerfield and then Fort Pierce Fla. Nan and Glenn travelled extensively living life to its fullest until his death in 1987.

After Glenn’s death, Nan continued travelling and visiting her son’s, their growing families, as well as her friends and family in Maryland, New York, Michigan and Colorado. Nan enjoyed driving from Fla. to Michigan (flying to Colorado) for these annual visits. Also, Nan had a strong support system in her friends (that were her “unrelated by blood”) family in her community of High Point in Fort Pierce Fla.

With her High Point “family” Nan went on many adventures and cruises throughout the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean. Also, Nan was a gourmet chef and her High Point “family” allowed her use this wonderful talent when she hosted many of their holiday festivities. Nan’s children and grandchildren were also beneficiaries of these tasty talents and always left freezers full of delicacies for them to enjoy long after she left.

Nan is survived by her sons Craig (Robin Leggere) of Keedysville MD. Chris (Audy Leggere-Hickey) of Boulder CO. grandchildren Kiel Leggere (Marissa), Mallory Leggere, Gemma Leggere, Janelle Leggere, Nola Leggere and great grandchildren Colin and Ryan Leggere. Nan is also survived her brother Lloyd Dempsey and many nieces and nephews. Nan was preceded in death by her husband Glenn, sisters Shirley Reinke, Rosemary Smith, and her parents James and Viola Dempsey.
