John was born on October 27, 1936 to Dennis and Mary Downing in New York City, New York. He moved to Port Saint Lucie, Florida 25 years ago coming from Long Island, New York. John was a United States Navy Veteran.
Survivors include wife, Gail Downing, of Florida; son, James Downing of Florida; daughter, Patricia (James) McGowan of New York; son, Kevin (Christine) Downing of Virginia; grandchildren, Carissa and Joe, Caitlyn and John, James, Brian, Sean, Arianna, Timothy, Chelsea, Kayla, Ryan, Julia, and Liam; great-grandchildren, Joe, Kailee, Lilly, Luke and Jack; and brother, George Downing of Massachusetts. He was preceded by his son, Brian Downing.
Service will be held privately by the family at a later date.
