Gary passed away peacefully on Feb. 12th after a lengthy illness. He was born in Anderson Indiana and was a proud graduate of South Bend Central High School. It was there that he met the love of his life and wife of over 48 years, Leah Thornburg Monroe. He served his country in the U.S.Army. Gary was a member of the Teamsters Union for 43 years as a driver, business agent and secretary / treasurer of Teamsters Local 364. He always strived to assist and support his union brothers and sisters and treasured the friends that he made along the way. Gary enjoyed golfing, coaching little league, billiards and playing cards with family and friends. His greatest joy was traveling with his wife and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Maxine Monroe and his brother Terry Monroe. He is survived by his wife, Leah, his two sons, Robert (Debbie), Richard (Leslie) and daughter Julie(Adam)Wable. Eight grandchildren, Nicholas Snyder, Mallory Johnson, Cassandra Monroe, Hannah Monroe, Sarah Monroe, Addison Wable, Matthew Monroe, and Michael Monroe. Brothers, Steve (Diane) Monroe, Jeff (Cindy) Monroe and a sister Cathy (Dave) Rieder. He also left behind numerous brother and sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews.
Burial of ashes to be held March 7th, 2015 at 11:30 AM EST at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, 23365 Edison Rd, South Bend, IN 46628
Visitation and a Celebration of Life to follow at 1:00PM. Pinhook Park Pavilion, 2801 Riverside Drive, South Bend, IN 46628
