Clotilda Anne (Chloe) Dunwoodie

April 6, 1929 — February 15, 2017

Clotilda Anne (Chloe) Dunwoodie passed away on 2/15/2017. She was born in Stamford, Connecticut on 4/6/1929 to Elena and Gregorio Simonetti. After graduating from IE Young HS in New Rochelle, NY in 1948, she moved to MA where she attended and graduated from Lesley College in 1951. Chloe taught at the Perkins School for the Blind until joining The Commonwealth of Massachusetts Commission for the Blind in 1955. She worked there, in various capacities, until her retirement in 1981 as Director of Children Services.

Soon after retirement, Chloe and her beloved husband moved to Florida. She began over 20 years of volunteer work at White City Elementary in Fort Pierce, FL. She loved working with the students and using her fluency in Spanish to help teach children English. She received numerous awards, including Child Advocate of the Year in 1995. Her love of volunteerism and children was also evident by her work as a Guardian ad Litem in the 19th Judicial Circuit for over 7 years.

Chloe was pre-deceased by her parents, husband David Dunwoodie, niece Marlana Culbert, nephew Vincent Simonetti, Jr. and her eight siblings. Lovingly known as “Aunt Babe”, she was always there for her nephews and nieces. She is survived by nephews, Frank Simonetti, Joseph Simonetti, Arthur Simonetti, Gregory Buckingham, Walter Buckingham, Joseph Bennetta, and Glen Johnson; nieces Janine Simonetti, Marian Simonetti and Donna Saul. In addition, she is survived by numerous grand nephews and grand nieces, along with her adopted family, Steve and Linda Mattes and granddaughter, Ariel Mattes.

Memorial contributions may be made to White City Elementary Library Fund, 905 W. 2nd Street, Fort Pierce, FL 34982.

A service will take place 2/26/2017 at 2:00pm at Haisley Funeral Home Chapel, Fort Pierce with the Rev. Craig Bridgers officiating.
